What is IOSH?

IOSH (Institution for Occupational Safety and Health) is Europe’s leading professional body for Health and Safety Professionals. Its purpose is to promote Health and Safety within the workplace as well as to maintain standards within the profession. It achieves this by providing authoritative guidance on matters associated with Health and Safety as well as developing courses such as the Working Safely and Managing Safely courses. IOSH also works with the UK government, EU parliament, trade unions and employers to ensure that Health and Safety issues are addressed effectively.

The IOSH Qualifications

IOSH has developed a range of qualifications designed for individuals at all levels within an organisation. Brunel have a licence to deliver the Managing Safely Course for Healthcare Professionals.

The 4-day Managing Safely Course has been developed to provide managers with the necessary information, instruction and training to allow them to carry out their responsibilities to supervise their staff effectively thus ensuring their Health and Safety. The course addresses the topics covered in the Working Safely course in greater depth as well as:

  • Occupational Health
  • Fire Safety

Both of the courses conclude with an assessment. The Working Safely examination takes the form of a multiple-choice question paper and hazard spotting exercise while the Managing Safely Course requires a more detailed paper and project to be undertaken. Candidates successful in the end-of-course assessment are issued with nationally recognised IOSH certificates.
